History

The Association was  founded in 1985 by a small group of English people who met each Thursday to improve their ability to speak French. They met in the home of Peggy and Ted Davis. Ted was the Association's first President and their daughter Ruth among the Association's first members. As newcomers joined, meetings were held in Carpentras cafés.

Several years later, we received official recognition by French authorities as an association. The city of Carpentras gives us an annual subsidy and for several years  we  meet  at La Charité for our Thursday afternoon get-togethers.

Over the years, we have had several hundred members, French people from Carpentras' area and Anglophones from European countries, the United States and Canada and distant countries including New Zealand and South Africa.

Every two to three months, a newsletter, in French and in English is distributed to members by mail or e.mail,  with details of upcoming events.
